Thank-you to the Marion County Community Foundation. They have given the Friends of Big Rock Park a grant to continue our nature programs and to do more study of the plants in Big Rock Par,
Here are some events coming up!
September 7: 9-11 am (rain date Sept 8 1-3 pm) Marla Mertz, Marion County Conservation Officer, Biologist Kristin Siewert (Central College): Monarch tagging and Professor Nicole Palenske Ladner (Central College) : reptiles and amphibians
September 14: 9-11 am (rain date Sept 15: 1-3 pm) Botanist Tom Rosburg (Drake University) : native plants including poison ivy identification! Tom will also complete a floristic study as part of this grant
September 21: 9-11 am (rain date Sept 22: 1-3 pm) Kayla Lindquist (Central College) Nature Photography
Sept 28: 9-11 am (rain date Sept 29: 1-3 pm) Artist Tilly Woodward (Grinnell College) : Rock Painting and Combining Art with Nature
October 5: (rain date: October 6: 1-3 pm) Friends of Big Rock Park Board and Enthusiast Randy Rolffs honoring Native American archeology, culture and history
Additionally, our proposed and former presenters will visit care facilities or senior centers. Presenters will include Randy Rolffs (Native Culture) , Paulina Mena (Native bees) , Kayla Lindquist (Nature Photography), Paul Weihe (trees of Big Rock Park), Tom Rosberg (floristic study), and Marla Mertz. (Monarchs)
